What is the TLC?

The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) is the New York City agency that licenses and regulates the for-hire vehicle (FHV) industries, including app-based companies (Uber, Lyft and Via), medallion taxicabs, commuter vans, and paratransit vehicles. There are several classes of FHV services in New York City, including black cars (e-hails), luxury limousines, yellow taxis, green taxis and liveries (also known as community cars). Each TLC vehicle has a unique set of TLC insurance requirements.
